In my practice I work with therapists across the spectrum of experience. Whether you are just starting out in your profession and interested in learning the foundations of effective practice or you have been practicing for years and are looking to enhance your skills and knowledge, supervision can be a place that provides a time of reflection and a place to explore potential new directions with clients.
As a therapist and an educator, I believe that supervision and consultation are critical components of effective therapeutic work with clients. And, as a supervisor, I strive to provide a safe space for you to examine all aspects of your practice with your clients. As a supervisor I work with you in a collaborative process of consultation.
I am trained in Cognitive, Interpersonal, and Object-Relations theories. From these theoretical perspectives, the following are several goals of supervision:
• To increase personal awareness.
• To understand the impact of one's subjectivity on the therapeutic relationship.
• To understand, synthesize and integrate theory into practice. (Provides a basis for understanding why we do what we do).
• To increase empathic awareness.
• To develop a professional identity.
• To integrate one's professional identity into one's overall sense of self.
"It is in the intimacy of the supervisory relationship that, ideally, the supervisee can feel free to 'not know', to learn and grow..."
Judy Ann Kaplan, 2003
